The Novel, obviously the first book, sees Sam leaping into Bob Watkins, a carnival worker in Jasmine, Oklahoma. In the early 90s, a series of novels was launched, running to eighteen books in total, and while they have been argued over in terms of canon, they allowed for more adventures with Sam and Al. I strongly identify with Scott Bakula’s portrayal of the time-travelling Sam Beckett, who is accompanied through his mission to make things right that once went wrong by the holographic appearance of his friend Al Calavicci. And what better way to honor the series then by reading a book in the series. So, why did I read this one? Well, today () is the 30th anniversary of the when the pilot movie was shown. Which is fine - just means that I can get back into my habit of reading one a year. And then LIFE happened - marriage, jobs, moving, family, more work, other books and other series.Īnd before I knew it, 23 years goes by between the books. (Stupid College - how dare they expect me to put aside Sam Beckett for Sam Beckett!!!!) But when the show ended, I knew that the only new adventures of Sam and Al I could find would be in the books. As soon as I got a copy, I had it on the TBR pile, near the top.
